Upon completion of the Republic Olympiad, 10 to 16 gold and silver medalists are invited to take part in a two-week cross-republic camp. Although the Olympiad is open for participation to 9-11 grade students, preference is given to 10-11th graders to join the camp. It is at the training camp that a team of 8 students is formed to represent Kazakhstan at the International Mendeleev Olympiad (IMO). After the IMO, the next cross-republic camp is held to select 4 final students to partake in the International Chemical Olympiad (IChO). It is notable that the selection takes place based on one or several test papers.
