Selection of national team from Kazakhstan

The selection process for International Physics Olympiad is quite unconventional. 1st and 2nd winners of the Republic Olympiad are invited to the cross-republic camp taking place in April. However, these students cannot qualify for participation in the Asian Physical Olympiad (APhO) in May and the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in July of the same year. Instead, they take part in a winter training camp that December to pass the tests based on which a team of 8 students is assembled for participation in APhO. Furthermore, 5 students are selected to partake in the IPhO based on the results of the Asian Physics Olympiad. Thus, prize-holders of the Republic Olympiad are only able to participate in international Olympiads the following year upon successful completion of a winter cross-republic training camp.

*As of 2020, selection process for the Asian Physics Olympiad is not only based on results from the winter cross-republic camp with 60% share, but also on results of the International Zhautykov Olympiad (20%) and the Republic Olympiad (20%).
